Synopsis

Open Access, Open Review, Language Diversity & Online Publishing

10th of July 2009, European Congress of Psychology, Oslo

Scientific communication has changed dramatically over the past years. New paradigms, like open access and open review, have sprung up and developed very successfully. Additionally the merging of Europe, including its linguistic diversity, has created new opportunities and challenges for scientific exchange. At the Leibniz-Institute for Psychology Information in Germany, we started an initiative to discuss European Psychology Publication Issues and to put the development of a European Psychology Publication Platform on the agenda. As a first step we conducted a survey among European psychologists. Based on this, we organized a workshop, with participants from 12 different European countries, at the International Conference of Psychology in Berlin (July 2008). In November 2008 we had a follow up workshop in Trier. First we discussed idiosyncratic publication issues of each country. Then we went one step further and summarized aspects like visibility, languages, open review and open access under an integrated European perspective, serving as basic principles for a European Psychology Publication Platform.
