At the moment, there seems to be the tendency to publish psychological research findings in English language journals dominated by US publishers. Moreover, the evaluation as well as funding of researchers and programs in Europe is contingent upon publication activities in such non-European journals.
So, one could ask the questions:
We are considering an initiative which would result in an open access publication platform which is tailored to European needs, including the linguistic diversity. In order to collect empirical data on the issues raised, an online survey was conducted in the Spring of 2008 which was answered by almost 500 Psychologists from 24 European countries.
A summary of the results can be found [here].
An analysis of the survey was presented at our workshop during the XXIX International Congress of Psychology in Berlin. In addition, representatives from 14 different European countries reported their views on the issues. The results are available online and in print.
After we started a series of workshops to follow the idea to build up a European Psychology Publication Platform.
